Amy Johannesen holds a J.D. degree from New York University, is admitted to the New York State Bar and the U.S. Court of International Trade, and has been ranked among the top Trade and Customs Lawyers in Who’s Who Legal for each of the past eight years. She is a past President and Member of the Year of the Organization of Women in International Trade, a recipient of the NY Women's Agenda (NYWA) “Woman of the Future” award.
Amy brings more than twenty-five years of legal and practical expertise in customs and related international trade law, and has assisted Fortune 100 companies and other clients in the fashion, aerospace, consumer products and services, healthcare, high technology, materials and other industries to achieve savings efficiencies, correct issues, mitigate risk, engage with government agencies, and advance initiatives.
Prior to founding Johannesen Associates in 2016, Amy was an equity partner at a boutique law firm specializing in customs and international trade law, as well as an equity partner at a large multinational law firm, helping to manage the firm’s global trade and customs practice. In these management roles, Amy has lead teams assisting companies to address legal issues impacting compliance, minimize the impact of noncompliance, and exploit ways to correct or enhance procedures so as to be best positioned to take advantage of cost savings opportunities.
Amy has contributed to publications such as The Metropolitan Corporate Counsel, and has lectured for the ICPA (International Compliance Professionals Association), the American Conference Institute, the American Chambers of Commerce in Australia and Thailand, and the U.S. Department of State International Visitors Leadership Program, on issues including leveraging and complying with FTAs, obtaining globally-harmonized tariff classification, valuation, and country of origin treatment, and other customs and trade-related issues.
